Knock, Knock? Making Sense of the New Private-Land Requirements Notice

Effective June 2, 2008, amendments to Section 19 of the Mineral Tenure Act require free miners in B.C. to notify landowners before entering private land to conduct any mining activities. The amendments also require free miners to provide notice before entering land held by leaseholders pursuant to the Land Act. Mining activities are defined broadly and include prospecting, mapping, sampling and geophysical surveying, as well as activities that disturb the surface.
