The new Canadian Conservative government presented its first national Budget on May 2, 2006. The balanced budget provides for tax cuts, focused spending and debt paydown centered around the themes of accountability, opportunity, families and communities and security. Budget 2006 also provides a framework for discussion regarding the fiscal balance in Canada (the revenue generating capacities of the federal versus provincial governments).
