A significant part of the Canadian cross-border practice involves the structuring and preparation of legal documentation for large-scale project financing. Many Canadian projects are financed by traditional sources such as the Canadian chartered banks and, to some extent, through Canadian capital markets, both debt and equity. However, as the size and scope of these projects have grown significantly over the past few years, Canadian projects, particularly in energy and in public-private partnerships (P3s), are increasingly relying on foreign capital as well as other international participants.
