A recent Alberta case, Hauck v. The Dominion of Canada General Insurance Company, [2003] ABQB 901 (Q.B.) affirmed [2005] ABCA 160 (C.A.), has illustrated that the underwriting risk of auto policies on transport trailers is greater than has been generally appreciated. These policies tend to be written at low premiums on the assumption that third party liability cover will rarely be called upon, as accidents will rarely arise from the "ownership use or operation" of the trailer.
