In light of the shocking corporate excesses and scandalous behaviour that have come to light in the United States, one of the major concerns of institutions, regulators and corporations has been good corporate governance. These excesses have in effect triggered a corporate governance revolution in the U.S. and there are signs that regulators in Canada, although somewhat reluctant to follow the U.S. lead, will undoubtedly raise the standards for formal corporate governance in the coming months to secure confidence in the Canadian markets.
