Every good business looks for ways in which to gain a competitive advantage, something that sets the business apart from its competitors. In today’s world, in which the exchange of information and ideas is greatly facilitated by advanced forms of media, including, for example, the internet, understanding and strategically protecting and exploiting intellectual property may provide a business with such a competitive advantage. Knowledge and understanding of intellectual property is also important to ensuring that one does not incur liability through the violation of another’s intellectual property rights.
