Chronic pain syndrome, also known as fibromyalgia, myofascial pain or "regional pain syndrome", emerged as an important issue in personal injury compensation law some 20 years ago, and presents particular problems in determining liability, particularly causation, in all common law jurisdictions. This is so irrespective of whether the claims are litigated under workers’ compensation legislation, no-fault motor vehicle compensation schemes, or at common law.
