Bill 133 Becomes Law over Industry’s Objections

The Environmental Enforcement Statute Law Amendment Act (“Act”) — the “Spill Bill” — became law in Ontario on June 13, 2005. This tough new legislation amends the Environmental Protection Act and the Ontario Water Resources Act and makes significant changes to Ontario’s environmental liability regime. The Act poses significant new risks for companies involved in any activity that may have an adverse impact on the environment.
