British Columbia Labour Relations, Employment Standards, Workers Compensation and Human Rights Law: The 2003 Update
Author(s): Overholt, Carman
Date: October 22 2003

The election of a new provincial Government in the spring of 2001 has resulted in considerable change to the labour relations and employment law landscape in British Columbia. These changes include significant new legislation and proposals for further amendments to labour relations, employment standards, workers compensation and human rights legislation in the near future. In addition, recent decisions of the Labour Relations Board and the Courts demonstrate that labour and employment law continues to develop in a way that reflects the rapidly changing nature of Canadian society and the greater emphasis on the importance of work in our society.

This paper will review the most notable developments in British Columbia in the past year and discuss how these changes will have an impact on the workplace in the province of British Columbia.
