When my family and I immigrated to a small town in Ontario in the late 80s, I remember being one of the few visible minorities in my class. Now, more than 20 years later, the makeup of classrooms across Canada has changed significantly, with more immigrants choosing Canada as their new home. Between 2001 and 2006, Canada's visible minority population increased more than five times faster than the population as a whole, and in 2006, approximately five million Canadians self-identified as visible minorities.
