Ontario employers must start preparing to make their workplaces and employment practices more accessible to current and potential employees with disabilities as a result of new standards recently released
by the Government of Ontario.
The Government of Ontario recently released the final Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulation (the ‘‘Regulation’’) under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 (the ‘‘AODA’’).
The Regulation, which came into force on July 1, 2011, applies to virtually every public and private sector organization in Ontario that provides goods, services, or facilities to the public or other third parties. It also sets out three new accessibility standards in the areas of information and accessibility standards in the areas of information and communications, employment, and transportation.
