Brian R. Leonard LL.B, B.A., Partner
Brian practises within the Fraser Milner Casgrain LLP Litigation Group with an emphasis on various aspects of commercial litigation. He has appeared as counsel on matters before the Courts of Ontario, Alberta and New Brunswick as well as the Federal Court of Canada and before Arbitration Boards convened pursuant to the International Arbitration Act.

Among Brian’s significant practice areas are professional liability (with an emphasis on acting for auditors and accountants, as well as lawyers and officers and directors) and corporate litigation, including shareholder disputes involving issues of governance and valuation. Brian also has significant experience in commercial disputes involving stockbrokers’ and real estate agents’ liability as well as in banking litigation.

Brian was a founding member of FMC's Toronto Diversity Committee and is now the Co-chair.

Brian has 18 years of experience in dealing with and resolving all forms of commercial disputes. He is particularly experienced in dealing with accounting, auditing and valuation issues and questions of commercial practice and corporate governance. His clientele and caseload tend to be sophisticated and complicated, respectively, raising cutting edge legal issues and difficult questions of liability and damages.

Acted for a provider of D&O insurance in respect of unpaid employee wages and benefits in an insolvency
Acted for CDIC in pursuing the officers and directors of a failed regional bank
Acted for LPIC in handling several multi-million dollar claims against lawyers alleged to have breached the professional standards in real estate transactions; each case settled for pennies on the dollar
