Chris has been a member of the firm’s Research Group since 1983 and is currently its head. A substantial part of his practice involves providing analysis and practical advice to assist the firm’s clients in connection with administrative, constitutional, commercial and insolvency issues. He works closely and on a regular basis with many lawyers within the firm. Chris also has particular expertise in the area of professional responsibility and liability, and concerning conflict of laws issues.

Chris is an authority on and the co-author of two books dealing with access to information and privacy. He regularly advises clients on issues concerning both privacy and access to information. He has represented clients on appeals before the Ontario Information and Privacy Commissioner, and proceedings before the federal Information Commissioner. In addition, Chris has assisted counsel on applications to the Federal Court concerning freedom of information and privacy issues.

The Research Group is a valuable resource, providing counsel and practical guidance to individual lawyers within the firm to advance their clients’ interests. The knowledge and experience of the members of the Group in a wide range of situations allows them to provide specific advice tailored to the needs of particular situations, whether the question requires only a few minutes or much longer involvement. The Research Group can and does make a difference in advancing the interests of the firm’s clients.
