Xavier Van Overmeire Regional Head of the International Trade Group

Xavier Van Overmeire joined the Montréal office of Fraser Milner Casgrain LLP (FMC) in 2008 and became Regional Head of the International Trade Group in February 2010.

Xavier has expertise in major transactions in Europe, Asia and in North America. He frequently advises clients in connection with implementing and determining strategies for the production, distribution or sale of their products or services in foreign markets. He also drafts complex contracts, such as licensing or partnership agreements for the development or international marketing of technologies.

Since 2008, Xavier teaches at the University of Montréal on international business transactions and on electronic commerce law and is a frequent guest speaker at the Barreau du Québec’s continuing education seminars for the legal profession. He has authored numerous publications on various topics, such as issues related to parallel imports, shippers’ liability, strict documentary credit compliance and maritime insurance.

Xavier regularly represents domestic and foreign companies before international courts of law (particularly in Europe) and arbitration panels on international trade issues concerning the import-export of products and services.

Xavier is accredited by AWEX (Agence wallonne à l’exportation) as an international trade specialist and is an expert in import-export strategies and joint ventures for the North American market.
