Wendy D. Riel LL.B., B.A. (Hons.), Partner

As a partner with FMC's Intellectual Property team, Wendy assists local, national and international clients through the selection, acquisition, prosecution, and enforcement of trade-marks. Wendy has been in private practice in the area of trade-mark law for several years. Prior to private practice, she was a Senior Examiner at the Canadian Trade-marks Office.

Wendy has extensive experience in providing registrability opinions and assisting clients through the trade-mark application process. She has been involved in a significant number of opposition and post-registration proceedings, including summary cancellation proceedings and litigation matters.

In addition to assisting clients in the selection and registration of trade-marks, Wendy also advises clients with respect to trade-mark acquisition, branding and re-branding, due diligence, marking requirements and labeling issues as well as counterfeit and licensing matters. Wendy is also experienced in the areas of copyright and domain name acquisition, registration and disputes.
