Gil Rémillard Ad. E., LL.D, LL.L., B.A., Counsel

Gil Rémillard’s career spans 30 years of private practice in law and education. From 1985 to 1994, he held several positions within the Quebec Government as the Minister of International Relations, the Minister of Public Security, the Minister of Justice, the Attorney General, and the Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs.

As the Minister of Justice, for nearly six years, he presided over the completion of the new Civil Code of Québec, which has been in effect since January 1, 1994. He was also a special advisor to the Prime Minister of Canada with respect to constitutional matters and an advisor to the U.N. Canadian delegation. The recipient of a Ph.D. (doctorat d’État), he has written several books and articles on constitutional law, communications law, administrative law and human rights. He was also a professor and lecturer at numerous Canadian and foreign universities and organizations.

Since 1994, he has been a professor at l’École nationale d’administration publique (ÉNAP), affiliated with the l’Université du Québec, where he continues to lecture in administrative and international law. He is the founding Chairman of the International Economic Forum of Montreal/Conference de Montreal, one of the most important economic forums of the Americas. He is also the founding Chairman of the Toronto Forum for Global Cities (an annual forum regarding large cities), Chairman of the Institut international d’études administratives de Montréal, as well as the president and publisher of the economic magazine FORCES.

In 2007, the General Council of the Québec Bar conferred on Gil the distinction of "Advocatus Emeritus." This award acknowledges the career of members who are renowned, or have been renowned, for their professional excellence, as well as their continued and outstanding contribution to the profession. Gil joined Fraser Milner Casgrain LLP as counsel in 1994.
