Anneli LeGault LL.B., B.A. (Hons.), Partner

Anneli’s employment law practice is focused on human resources policy issues, including employment agreements, human rights, pay equity, employment equity, reorganizations, outsourcing and terms and conditions of employment. Anneli also advises and represents a wide range of both federally and provincially regulated clients on labour relations and employment law issues before various administrative tribunals, and advises clients on the administration of collective agreements, hiring and termination procedures and other related areas. 

Working in close partnership with vendors and purchasers of corporate assets and shares, Anneli negotiates, drafts and reviews the employee and privacy-related terms of acquisition and sale agreements. 

She has also been actively educating organizations with respect to compliance with privacy laws and has experience in privacy audits, preparation of privacy policies and advising on revisions to documents and procedures to comply with personal data protection legislation, including issues arising under U.S. and Canadian legislation in the case of cross-border data transfers.

Anneli co-authored Your Employment Standards Questions Answered – Federal and Provincial Guidance, 4th Edition, a key resource on Employment Standards in Canada.

Anneli’s expertise is built on over 20 years of partnering with unionized and non-union employers and working closely with management to anticipate and prevent workplace problems, and to effectively restructure and reorganize the workforce. 

Anneli is on the referral list for a major national U.S. law firm and provides Canadian advice to U.S. parents and Canadian subsidiaries.

Representative Work
All employee-related aspects of acquisitions by U.S. manufacturer of its first Canadian facility, advice on Canadian laws and business environment and managing in a unionized environment
Acting for one of Canada’s major banks, Anneli represents the bank at the table and negotiates and drafts the bank’s outsourcing agreements with third-party vendors
Reviewing employee profiles and preparing all termination of employment documentation and severance packages, and negotiating settlements with claimants
Defence of national recorded music retailer on basis of freedom of speech and Charter rights with respect to challenge under Human Rights Code of Ontario concerning sale of certain types of music
