Sonja practises in the Commercial Real Estate Group with an emphasis on commercial leasing, commercial acquisitions and dispositions and financing. Sonja has specialized experience in the area of commercial leasing including retail, industrial and office leasing. She regularly negotiates leases involving REITs, anchor tenants, large industrial developers, sale-leasebacks and leases of portlands. She acts for both landlords and tenants in preparing and reviewing all forms of lease documentation and regularly advises landlords and tenants on lease interpretation, remedies and enforcement issues.

Sonja also has experience in developing joint venture structures for real estate acquisitions and in preparing and negotiating all forms of agreements relating to real estate such as co-owner agreements, property management agreements, asset management agreements, listing agreements, and license agreements.

Sonja’s experience in commercial real estate acquisitions and dispositions is transaction-based and often involves acquisition of land for development purposes. In 2005, Sonja was instrumental in the completion of a land assembly for Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada Inc. involving the acquisition of 1,000 acres of land for its new vehicle assembly plant to be built and located in Woodstock, Ontario.
