Louis Dumont has 25 years of experience in insolvency and commercial litigation including product liability, franchising and real estate. Mr. Dumont has represented numerous manufacturers in product liability cases and class actions.  He has been instrumental in defeating several certification requests.

He is currently Quebec Chair of the National Insolvency and Workout Group for the Montréal office. He advises clients in matters of local, national and international bankruptcy and insolvency and has represented secured lenders in enforcing their security through the exercise of bank security, exercise of hypothecary rights and remedies, defending their security against challenges by others, as well as lender liability issues.

Mr. Dumont has also represented corporate debtors with respect to the reorganization of debt and equity and has represented several accounting firms in their capacity as trustee in bankruptcy, interim receiver, monitor and court-appointed receiver.

Mr. Dumont has been involved in numerous court cases involving conflicts of priority and the validity and conflicts of priority between secured lenders and other creditors. He has also advised several franchisers, manufacturers, suppliers, landlords, guarantors and directors in connection with their obligations and the protections of their rights in bankruptcy and insolvency related matters. Mr. Dumont joined Fraser Milner Casgrain LLP in 1984 and became a partner in 1988.
