Matthew J.G. Curtis LL.B., B.A. (Hons.), Associate

Matthew Curtis is an associate with FMC’s Labour and Employment Group. He summered as a law student at FMC in 2005 and 2006 and returned for his articles in 2008. Prior to rejoining the firm, Matthew was a judicial law clerk at the Federal Court of Appeal.

He has appeared before the British Columbia Supreme Court, the British Columbia Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Canada.

Matthew practises in all areas of employment and labour law, including wrongful dismissal, post-employment competition, employment standards complaints, privacy complaints, executive compensation, health & safety matters and workers compensation, human rights, and labour relations.

Matthew also acts for companies in a range of general civil litigation matters, including claims in tort and contract.

Representative Work
Acting for a secured lender in proceedings up to the Supreme Court of Canada concerning the priority of unremitted GST proceeds in a failed restructuring under the Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act: see Century Services Inc. v. Canada (Attorney General), 2010 SCC 60
Acting for employers in wrongful dismissal claims, including the successful defence of an employer in respect of a claim for damages brought by a former employee: see, for example, Dawydiuk v. I.C.B.C.
