Peter C. Cooke LL.B., B.A. (Hons.), Registered Trademark Agent, Counsel

Peter is counsel and Chair of the national Intellectual Property Practice Group. Peter helps local and international clients navigate through the trademark selection and protection process. Peter is a senior member of the Ottawa Intellectual Property Group and his practice is restricted entirely to Intellectual Property. 

Peter is experienced in the preparation of trademark registrability and infringement opinions. Peter prosecutes trademark applications in Canada and maintains a busy opposition practice. He counsels clients in the selection and protection of trademarks worldwide. He participates in re-branding, trademark acquisition and the negotiation of licensing agreements, facilitates intellectual property due diligence, assists in intellectual property litigation matters, and advises generally on all aspects of intellectual property enforcement and policing. Peter also has expertise in copyright and domain name matters.

Prior to joining Fraser Milner Casgrain LLP, Peter was a member of the Trademark Opposition Board and before that began his practice with an intellectual property boutique firm.

Peter is experienced in the preparation of trademark registrability and infringement opinions. Peter prosecutes trade-mark applications for registration in Canada and maintains a busy opposition and cancellation practice. He counsels clients in the selection, clearance and enforcement of trade-marks worldwide, and manages numerous Canadian and international portfolios of trademarks.

Peter participates in branding and re-branding, trademark acquisition and the negotiations of license agreements. Peter facilitates intellectual property due diligence, assists with intellectual property litigation matters and advises generally on all aspects of intellectual property enforcement and policing.

Peter also has expertise in copyright matters, having advised clients on authorship issues, copyright registration, website concerns, licensing, moral rights and dispute resolution along with other topics. He also advises in respect of domain name matters, having resolved a number of domain name disputes, and providing strategic guidance in this area.
