Doug is Vice Chair and Senior Counsel of Fraser Milner Casgrain LLP. His practice involves providing legal, policy and strategic advice to governments and corporations. His specific legal expertise is in the areas of corporate, commercial and energy law.

In addition, he is an active Board member. He is Corporate Secretary of Shaw Communications Inc., Chair of two Canadian health care businesses, and sits on the international Supervisory Board for the Addax & Oryx Group. Doug also sits on the Advisory Board of a Canadian construction company, is Senior Advisor to an investment bank, and is Senior Advisor to an infrastructure company and a national public relations company. Doug is also active with community work. He serves on the Board of Governors of the University of Calgary and on its Executive Committee. He also serves as the President of the Michaëlle Jean Foundation for the Arts, the Foundation established by the Governor General of Canada.

He is also the founding President of the Energy Policy Institute of Canada (EPIC).
