Canadian law firms have an edge over U.S. firms when it comes to P3 expertise. Miami recently joined a handful of American cities that have completed large public-private partnership projects (P3), when the US$900 million Port of Miami Tunnel Project financing closed last week.
The U.K. and Canada, on the other hand, have a very mature market when it comes to P3. Hundreds of deals have closed over the years making Canada a leader in this area of law.
As P3 projects begin to evolve in the U.S., leading P3 lawyers like John Haythorne, Partner of Fraser Milner Casgrain LLP in Vancouver, already have years of experience dealing with P3 projects on a national and international level.
By the time U.S. firms are all caught up, Canadian firms will continue to have an advantage, as they will already have established client relationships.
