Fraser Milner Casgrain LLP (FMC), one of Canada’s leading business and litigation law firms, is proud to announce the donation of $250,000 to the University of British Columbia’s Faculty of Law (UBC Law) building project. With FMC’s contribution, the Faculty is only $200,000 short of its $24-million-dollar fundraising goal.
The new building is designed to give UBC Law a new home — an educational and research facility whose architectural execution matches the excellence of the school’s students and faculty. The $56-million-dollar building is designed to be LEED Gold certified, and features modern classroom spaces, leading-edge learning technology and expanded space for student services. It is scheduled for completion in August, in time for the beginning of the 2011-2012 academic year.
"FMC is pleased to support UBC Law in the completion of this ambitious and forward-thinking project," said John Sandrelli, FMC's Managing Partner in Vancouver. "At FMC, we believe the professional and business community has a key role to play in supporting our educational institutions and helping them develop the leaders of tomorrow. We hope our support will help UBC Law continue to offer law students first-class legal education for many years to come."
FMC is an avid supporter of UBC Law, including its involvement as a gold level affiliate of the National Centre for Business Law and its sponsorship of the annual Douglas Knowles, Q.C. Annual Internship in Insolvency Law and the Summer Fellowship in Business Law. The firm has also supported the J. Donald Mawhinney Lectureship in Professional Ethics, the Annual Review of Insolvency Law Conference and the Gale Cup Moot.
UBC Law plans to name a room in the new law school building in honour of the firm.
