In November 2008, the Vancouver office of Fraser Milner Casgrain LLP (FMC) lost one of its friends, colleagues and mentors, Douglas Knowles, Q.C. To honour Doug’s memory and reflect his dedication to not only the legal community, but the community at large, we are pleased to advise that FMC has created the Douglas Knowles, Q.C. Annual Internship in Insolvency Law (the “Internship”).
As former Managing Partner and Chair of the National Insolvency and Restructuring Group, Doug was a leader, not only in the local Vancouver office, but also in the firm’s other five offices across the country. He was regarded as one of the best lawyers in his field, locally, nationally and internationally. As a mentor, Doug provided counsel and guidance to many lawyers in the Vancouver office and throughout the firm. Doug’s work as a community leader was highly regarded and the time he spent with various organizations helped to create a better, stronger community.
The purpose of the Internship is to provide a first or second year UBC law student with practical hands-on experience during full-time four-month summer employment, which will be split into two two-month sessions. The first two months will be spent working with FMC’s Vancouver Insolvency and Restructuring Group, and the last two months will be spent conducting insolvency-related research at UBC law school, under the supervision of Dr. Janis Sarra.
Candidates should contact the UBC Career Development Office for further details, prior to the application deadline of March 5, 2010.
