Y. Monica Song LL.B., B.A. (Hons.), Partner

Monica Song is a partner in the Litigation Department. She is a commercial litigator with expertise and experience in advising and advocating on behalf of clients facing administrative, licensing and procurement processes, as well as challenging adverse outcomes in appellate and judicial review proceedings.

Monica represents clients in the Internet, technology, merchant banking, transportation, telecommunications and broadcasting industries in a range of commercial litigation cases. In addition, she represents clients in leave to appeal, appellate and judicial review proceedings before the Federal Court, the Federal Court of Appeal and the Ontario Superior Court and Divisional Court.

Monica has worked extensively with clients in the communications sector, representing them in oral and written telecommunications policy and licensing proceedings before the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission, as well as advising clients on the regulation and licensing of broadcasting distribution and television programming undertakings. She has also advised clients on matters relating to radio spectrum and satellite orbital slots, and radio and digital equipment certification and standards issues.

Monica holds law degrees in civil and common law. She served as law clerk to Justice John Charles Major of the Supreme Court of Canada and as an intern at the Québec Court of Appeal for Justice Paul Gendreau. Monica is fluent in French and conversant in Korean.
