Peter’s practice focuses on banking and financial services law. He is repeatedly recognized as one of Canada's leading banking/financial services lawyers. 

As a partner in the Financial Services Group at FMC's Toronto office, he acts for a number of Canadian domestic financial institutions and foreign banks and as Canadian counsel for several foreign law firms. In addition to his transactional practice, Peter also has management responsibilities.

Peter's practice includes:

(i) Banking/corporate financing, including syndicated financings, cross-border multi-currency transactions, project financings, aircraft financing and leasing, and LBO financings

(ii) Bank Act regulatory advice to both domestic and foreign financial institutions (including foreign bank entry, subsidiary incorporation and bank amalgamation)

(iii) Trade finance/documentary credit transactions (domestic Canadian and international)

(iv) Structured financings, including asset-backed securitizations, receivables purchases, and synthetic leases

(v) Loan workouts, security enforcement and insolvency/debt restructuring for financial institution clients in court restructurings and bankruptcies of corporate debtors

Advising a syndicate of lenders providing US$1.275 billion credit facilities to one of Canada's largest oil and gas companies
Acted for numerous foreign banks in obtaining a variety of different regulatory consents or exemption orders in connection with their entry into Canada, or acquisition of Canadian businesses, or the operation of their business in Canada
Acted for a large Canadian financial institution client in unwinding leveraged aircraft lease structures and disposing of aircraft in connection with an airline insolvency
Acted for a syndicate of lenders in providing US$1.3 billion acquisition financing to a large multinational in its acquisition of Canada’s largest vintner and wine seller
