Doug is the Chair of Fraser Milner Casgrain LLP’s National Insolvency & Workout Group, the past Office Managing Partner of the Vancouver Office and served as Chair of Fraser Milner Casgrain LLP’s National Strategic Planning Steering Committee. He is recognized as a leader in the Vancouver marketplace in all insolvency, bankruptcy and restructuring matters including creditors’ remedies, debtors’ relief, bankruptcy, receivership, general insolvency matters, corporate restructuring and bank and insolvency related litigation. Doug has thirty years of experience acting for Canadian and international companies in various judicial and non‑judicial restructuring scenarios.  As well, Doug acts for trustees, receivers, monitors under the Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act, miscellaneous types of lenders and other creditors and stakeholders including government bodies.  In addition, he is often retained by foreign law firms in conjunction with international insolvencies and has been retained to provide expert evidence in the U.S. Courts and the English High Court of Justice with respect to Canadian insolvency law.

Doug has authored, presented and published numerous articles and papers in the insolvency, restructuring and creditors’ rights areas over the last thirty years.  He is a contributing editor of Credit and Banking Litigation Quarterly, Continuing Legal Education Society of British Columbia and has authored and presented for the Canadian Institute, University of British Columbia School of Law, Annual Insolvency Reviews, Queen’s Annual Business Law Symposium and has guest lectured at the University of British Columbia School of Law and the Victoria School of Law.  Doug participated as one of the eight Canadian advisers to the American Law Institute Transnational Insolvency Project which resulted in the publication "Transnational Insolvency Project Principles of Co-operation in Transnational Bankruptcy Cases Among Members of the North American Free Trade Agreement".  Doug is a charter member and past director of the Insolvency Institute of Canada, a member of the Insolvency Section of the Canadian Bar Association, the Turnaround Management Association, the International Bar Association, the American Bankruptcy Institute and the Commercial Law League of America.

Doug is named in 2007 Lexpert Guide to the U.S./Canada Cross Border Litigation Lawyers in Canada (Insolvency and Corporate Restructuring); recognized in Chambers 2008 Guide to the World's Leading Business Lawyers, as well as one of the "Top 100 Canada‑US. Litigators, Insolvency and Corporate Restructuring" in the Globe & Mail October 17, 2005; has been repeatedly named and continues to be named in the "Guide to the Leading 500 Lawyers in Canada" published by the American Lawyer in conjunction with Lexpert; is named in the "Euromoney Legal Group to the World’s Leading Insolvency and Restructuring Lawyers"; is named in the Business Law Research Publication and International "Who’s Who of Insolvency and Restructuring Lawyers"; is named in Chambers Global "The World’s Leading Lawyers" issues 2002 through 2006; and named a leading insolvency and financial restructuring lawyer by "The Best Lawyers in Canada".  Doug was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 2001.  He is a member of the California, British Columbia, Alberta and Yukon Bars.
