Eric N. Hoffstein LL.B., B.Sc., Partner

Eric practises general corporate commercial litigation and dispute resolution. He has extensive experience in complex multi-party and multi-jurisdiction disputes. Eric also has expertise in foreign judgment enforcement and estates, trusts and charity litigation. He has appeared as counsel at all levels of court in Ontario and at the Supreme Court of Canada.

Eric is the current Chair of the FMC Toronto Student Committee.

Representative Work
Member of defence counsel team for pharmaceutical company in multiple class-action claims in product liability case. Headed Canadian document management team responsible for organizing and reviewing approximately 15 million documents and addressing privilege, confidentiality and relevance issues.
Counsel for charitable foundations providing subsidies and housing to low-income families in a mediation/arbitration dispute over a tripartite apartment with a condominium corporation and independent property owner concerning operating expenses for shared facilities in a residential housing complex. Successfully negotiated a resolution which allowed charity to avoid payment obligations.
Member of defence counsel team for municipality in fatal aviation accident case involving multiple multi-party claims. Responsibilities include drafting pleadings and other court documents, file and document management, coordinating research and investigation activities, reporting to clients and planning litigation strategy with senior counsel.
Member of defence counsel teams for municipal and individual property owners in several multi-party construction lien actions. Responsibilities include overall carriage of file, document management, party and witness examinations and various court appearances.
