Mercedes D. Hitesman LL.B., B.A., Partner

Mercedes is a partner in the Litigation Group and practises in the area of commercial litigation with particular emphasis on insurance matters.

She provides legal counsel for institutional and corporate clients, concentrating on litigation defence work and disciplinary complaints against professionals. 

Her insurance related experience includes motor vehicle claims, subrogation recovery, occupiers’ liability claims and commercial host claims.

Mercedes’ commercial litigation experience includes product liability and contractual disputes.

Mercedes works closely with clients involved in complex tort and contractual disputes, both within the litigation arena and in finding creative solutions through ADR. She defends clients within the insurance industry and manufacturing industry in product liability actions, seeking ways to solve problems effectively and quickly utilizing innovative, cost effective and practical solutions.
Mercedes has represented clients involved in a broad range of commercial disputes, court proceedings and before administrative panels.
Teaching Roles
In addition to her work at the firm, Mercedes is a sessional instructor for the Faculty of Extension at the University of Alberta.
