Chris joined FMC after having worked for nearly a decade at Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada, in the Government of Canada’s Trade Law Bureau. He draws on his considerable experience in international trade and investment matters to advise clients in these areas as part of our International Trade Group.
As counsel in the Trade Law Bureau, Chris advised the Government of Canada on the compliance with international trade obligations of a wide range of domestic and foreign government measures, including measures relating to market access for goods and services (including trade in agricultural products) and foreign direct investment. He also briefed and argued numerous trade disputes before international tribunals, including under the WTO and the NAFTA, as well as ad hoc tribunals. Chris’ negotiating experience includes his role as lead counsel in Canada-Korea FTA negotiations and as a trade policy analyst through assignment to the International Trade and Finance Branch of the Department of Finance Canada, developing policy and negotiating positions for the WTO Doha Round of trade negotiations.
Chris is the recipient of the Head of the Public Service Award for excellence in service delivery for the Trade Law Bureau’s work as well as several awards for trade service relating to his work advising on and litigating trade disputes.
