ARTICLING WITH US
As an articling student, you’ll gain broad hands-on experience throughout the year by working directly with partners, associates, clients and other members of our team. Our articling program is specifically designed to be as flexible as possible, allowing you to participate in all of the major practice areas, while pursuing your own specific interests.
Working closely with lawyers from each practice area, you will have exposure to a wide variety of legal matters and will have the opportunity to conduct legal research, interview witnesses, meet with clients, draft documents, make court appearances, etc. The ongoing support of our Student Committee, your principal and your mentors ensures that you will be provided counsel throughout your year.
Building on our commitment to professional development programs, our Director of Professional Development and our Director of Professional Resources are responsible for our student education and performance management programs.
Please note that our office has completed its hiring for 2008/2009 articling term.
HOW OUR ROTATION PROGRAM WORKS
Our articling program is designed to provide you with a thorough understanding of what the practice of law encompasses in each of the departments you choose to rotate through. You will participate in four rotations, with each rotation being approximately two and a half months. You must complete both the Litigation and the Corporate/Securities rotations, and may choose two others from the following options: Financial Services/Commerical Real Estate, Tax, Employment, Pensions and Research.
Off-site rotations are also available with our corporate clients or a government agency, such as the Ontario Securities Commission. You may also be permitted to spend a portion of your articles outside Ontario, but within Canada. To take advantage of these out-of-province opportunities, you must complete at least three rotations at the firm and receive prior approval from the Law Society of Upper Canada.
