Construction | Infrastructure

Canadian and global construction and infrastructure development projects have been essential to the evolution and modernization of today’s environment. From industrial and commercial developments to highway extensions, health facilities, educational institutions, mining projects to the broad energy sector, this dynamic and ever-expanding industry requires a combination of varied legal expertise, industry knowledge, and a law firm that is national in scope.

At FMC, our national Construction | Infrastructure Group provides this combination with expertise encompassing all elements of construction and infrastructure development, locally and nationally, as well as assisting clients with cross-border or international agreements. Our group has assisted clients with projects in Asia; Europe; the Middle East; Africa; CIS; Pacific Rim; The United States; South America and the Caribbean. Our group offers high-quality, practical and effective legal counsel and representation to achieve optimal results for our clients at every stage of a project. We advise on project development, contracting strategy, alliance agreements, awarding of contracts, health and safety programs and private-public partnerships, as well as developing contracts for all types of construction and procurement methods.

We also provide advice and representation on risk assessment, conflicts avoidance, claims management and dispute resolution, and we litigate unresolved claims before the Courts and before arbitration tribunals, including before international arbitration boards.

Our clients include public and private owners, developers, builders, professional engineers and architects, general and specialized contractors, subcontractors, industrial equipment manufacturers, material suppliers, financial institutions, sureties and other players in this field. Our lawyers act for clients involved in large industrial or energy projects, in infrastructure works and in construction projects for the institutional sector, in mixed-use or commercial developments and in multi-residential projects.
